It’s hard to believe we are approaching the end of 2025 so quickly. This has been quite a year of many ups and downs, and at times, the world around us seems to be in a chaotic spin. I know that many of you are aware of the raids on our neighbors in surrounding jurisdictions and have felt the anxiety and burden of employment due to the chaos of this federal administration. At times, I feel helpless but in those moments, I always look for the helpers and we are blessed to be surrounded by so many. If there is a way that I can be a resource, please always feel free to reach out.
Leadership Retreat
The first weekend of November, the Town Council had our leadership retreat. This is something we do towards the beginning of our term and is designed to help build a stronger team. This last election season was very divisive and for me became very personal due to the attacks based on disinformation of my character which deeply affected my family. I have found my own closure on the trauma inflicted and keep the lessons learned as a guiding principle of how to navigate Cheverly politics. I continue to stay committed to work for the best interest of the Town and especially, my Ward 6 neighbors.
As many know, my platform has always been based on accessibility and accountability through transparent policies and procedures. This is why I currently am sitting on the policy subcommittee and have several different priorities for this term. I look forward to digging deep on these issues and to use my legal background to help make sure the Town is grounded in policy that is grounded in being community focused.
Ward 6 Youth Council
Thank you to Levon Carney for volunteering to be appointed on the Youth Council. I am excited for your experience representing Ward 6 for this coming term.

Welcome CPD Officers
Two more Cheverly Police Officers were sworn in at the Town Meeting. Welcome to Officer Giovanni Thypam and Officer Brandon Walker!
My Statement on my Ethics Appeal
Before I go into Meeting updates, I do want to address my statement that I made at the end of the November Town Meeting. If you have been able to watch it, I appreciate your patience through the statement as it was a bit long. That being said, this statement was something I have been looking forward to making for quite some time. If you have a chance to watch it, please do (click here at around 2:48 minute mark).
If you find you may not have time, here is the summary: My Secondary Employment Approval Request was closed on October 22, 2025 by the Prince George’s County Office of Ethics and Accountability for my role as a Town of Cheverly Council Member while working for the At-Large Council Member Jolene Ivey. Subsequently, upon notice to the Cheverly Ethics Board, the matter for the Town of Cheverly was closed on October 26, 2025. By closing the review, the OEA is saying the approval by the council administrator with the guidelines/policy put in place (created with guidance from the OEA) was to satisfaction of the OEA and any concerns of Conflicts of Interest.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. I know that the critics are already dissecting my every word in preparation of rebuttal but I will not be speaking to it again in a public forum but am happy to have conversations in good faith.

November 13, 2025 Meeting Updates:
(watch the meeting here & agenda can be found here)
Hospital Hill Updates
Representatives from Home Team 5 joined our meeting to request the Council’s support for an exception to a design rule that isn’t applied consistently across County zones. Here is the issue in plain terms: attached townhomes are required to include a certain amount of backyard space. In Residential Zones, that requirement is reduced if the garage is moved from the front of the home to the back and accessed by an alley. In Mixed Use Zones, the County never created that same exception.
For a lot of practical reasons like walkability, pedestrian safety, logistics, aesthetics, parking options, and preserving green space, it makes sense to allow the Cheverly Hill developers to use a rear alley layout just as they could in a Residential Zone. The Council voted to support Home Team 5 as they seek this exception from the County.*
*I had stepped out to speak to a resident during this update because it was not denoted with an asterisk for a vote. When I returned, to my surprise a vote had taken place. Normally, we do not vote on anything that is not denoted with an asterisk to ensure community is aware a vote would be happening. If I had been present for the vote, I would have recused myself.
Eley Building Updates
The COO of Keller Construction returned to share another update on the Eley Public Works building. The town is expected to receive Use and Occupancy in the first half of December. While I am hopeful, in full transparency, the Keller timeline has been hopeful at best and very disappointing.
Cheverly Station Apartments (CSA)
CM Garces, Town staff and I continue to work with CSA Management to ensure the livability at CSA for our Cheverly neighbors. I have long asked that as the entity that provides inspections and licenses, that the Town ensure accountability for our residents. I am grateful to Deputy Chief Krauss and CPD for taking the time to bring all stakeholders into the conversation and moving forward with measures that promotes accountability.
Gym Floors
The gym floors and bleachers are going to be updated thanks to Council Member Ivey advocating for resources to be allocated via MNCPPC’s Project Charge Program. Currently, gym floors are scheduled to be replaced November 20 December 5, 2025. Bleachers will be happening soon after, if we are unable to schedule for the same period.
Acting Public Works Director Cardeñas explained that there are a few blocks where parking on the odd-side does not provide enough clearance for the snow plow to navigate the streets if the cars are parked alongside the odd-side.
Hometown Heroes - Nomination for a hometown Hero? Please submit before the December Town Meeting.
Rec Council Meeting is tonight at 7pm in the large conference room. They need more volunteers so I encourage you to join and make sure Cheverly is providing events that reaches every part of our community.
This program ends soon under the current grant that we were invited to collaborate on with the Town of Edmonton. Fear not, the Town is looking into grants to keep this program going and to expand to include more residents. If you are interested, please sign up here. This will help the Town know the need to determine what is possible.
Red Light Cameras on Columbia Park Road
This is long overdue. They will be installed this week with citations starting on December 1.
We have worked on this issue since before my tenure and I am glad that we could move the needle with red light cameras. I want to thank CPD, SHA, Council Member Ivey, Former Mayor Kayce and CM Dalaker and probably many before our tenures who have been trying to call attention to this area that has been deemed a “design flaw.”
November and December’s work session will be on December 4th. Due to the PGCMA Legislative Reception on December 11, the December Town Meeting will be on December 18.
