Dear Neighbors,

Well here we are again, another snow! If you missed the Snow Update on Zoom this evening from the Town Administrator, here are a few main updates:

Winter Storm Update

After the last snow storm, I believe it is more important than ever that we check on our neighbors. For me, it would be helpful to know if you or a neighbor may be elderly and/or have health issues, etc that would allow me to alert the Town in the event of another big weather event. If you feel comfortable enough to do so, please email me at af...@cheverly-md.gov.

I am also looking for good neighbor volunteers who may be willing to assist with shoveling or other tasks for these neighbors who may need an extra hand. Please email me at af...@cheverly-md.gov if you are willing. If you are a student, you can receive service hours. The town may be able to provide shovels so that you can help others.

It is hard to believe we are almost to March. The Town has been busier than ever and I have to give a shout out to the team and how great they are. From the “snowcrete” storm to working on this current weather event and everything in between, there has been a lot going on.

Here are some things I think are particularly noteworthy and I’ll provide a link to some other updates from the past meetings.

Looks like the Walgreens is going to become an Ace Hardware Store

Secret Service was looking into leasing part of the Craftsman Building to which I stated during the meeting update that I was opposed to. My understanding is that there is no longer discussion for this to occur.

Hospital Hill Preliminary Plan of Subdivision (PPS-2023-039) was submitted.

The Town was awarded a federal earmark for the Maryland 201 Bike Trail in the amount of $650,000 (this is in addition to the $450,000 received last year for this project).

Leaf Collection will beginning in March and there will be an updated collection schedule to be posted once it is finalized.

Forest Road Erosion Evaluation has begun (yay!!!)!

At this coming work session, the town council will discuss a policy for elected officials to hold special events outside the normal residents process. This is an important conversation so there can be clear guidelines as to what elected officials can expect when it comes to hosting events and how much of town resources/staff can be used to support these events.

Cheverly Black History Month Event will be this Wednesday February 25 in the Eley Building at 7pm. This event is hosted by CAACO and the Old Fourth Ward Civic Association. I hope you’ll join!

Rec Council is looking for more volunteers. They would like to expand their events to serve more of Cheverly. Similar to the wonderful Pickleball that Ms. Vee spearheads, Rec Council needs human power to offer different types of events and hopes to host things like adult game nights, more pickleball, and serve more age groups. Please consider volunteering.
