Ihave also had an email along the same lines as this. Started last night. I have had several emails from Paypal to my junk folder (normally paypal goes straight to my inbox) and nothing has shown up on my account in Paypal.

Just had an email from Maria Murphy with the Paypal scam of purchasing my car, sight unseen, advertised on Autotrader. Said to set up a paypal account and she would transfer the money in, couldn't talk on the phone because of a conference call commitment. The English in the email was suspicious, sounding like someone TRYING to speak english but missing a few words or using the wrong spelling. Anyway, I've asked for name, address, drivers license number and insurance information before I proceed, as a fraud prevention step. We shall see where this goes, but I'm pretty sure this will be the end of the emails.

I was just scammed out of over $3500 by this person using a fraudulant PayPal email requesting I send Western Union wires to cover transactions such as shipping hte vehicle and "port tax". I called PayPal and they confirmed they would never require wires via Western Union . When the ird request came in, I did some checking. This person is bad news. Dont even reply to the person. Upset my day!!!!

The exact same thing happened to me. It makes me so angry and I pray nobody falls for it! ai forwarded emails to sp...@paypal.com and am also going to look on autotrader.com to see if there is any way to report it there. Some people. Honestly they must have miserable lives.

The fraud is still going on. I'm just in "negotations" with a potential buyer now for a car I listed on Autotrader.ca. He contacted me by text message, offering full price for my car but then suddenly wanted me to pay his shipper first. The money he says is being held by Paypal isn't showing up in my Paypal account, of course (even if "locked", I'm sure it would be noted).

Same thing happened to me - proposed buyer contacted me first by cell phone text, wishing to correspond by email. Did so and found buyer wanted to pay full price of vehicle advertised on AutoTrader.com, sight unseen but wanted to include extra money to my PayPal account so that I could pay shipper with WesternUnion services. After several emails, I sent one back explaining only cash or exact $ in Paypal account or "NO DEAL". No response back since my last email.
