Subject: Hyatt Splash-in
Everyone,
I wanted to remind you of the upcoming splash-in at the Cambridge Hyatt this SATURDAY. According to the weather folks, the mid-Atlantic area should enjoy bright and sunny weather. Perfect for splashing-in! I’m re-sending the text Steve Harris released about three weeks ago (Thanks Steve!), along with the picture/diagram of the landing and beaching areas. I’ll be arriving Friday, so those who want to come in prior to 10 AM, feel free to do so. I should be up on 123.45 if you have any questions while “in the pattern,” or just call me on my cell at 703-629-4675.
On behalf of Helen Woods, Chesapeake Sport Pilot and all of you who enjoy salt water and Chesapeake Bay blue crabs, the annual Cambridge Hyatt splash-in is on for SATURDAY, AUGUST 17, one week after Don Maxwell’s “Late Fall” splash-in at his wonderful home on the James River. HIGH tide at the Cambridge Hyatt is forecast for 12:48 PM, but will only range about 1.5 ft. There is plenty of water to land outside the marina breakwater in any direction. There is plenty of water inside the marina breakwater to taxi. You should have plenty of beach for your amphib or float plane. RAIN DATE is the following SATURDAY, AUGUST 24.
I suggest you arrive by 11:00 AM, with people gathering talk and have lunch around noon. We have had as many as five aircraft up on the beach with others tied up within wading distance just off the beach. If you can’t float, you can land at Cambridge Airport KCGE (RWY 16-34, 4477’ x 75’ asphalt), about two miles south-east of the Hyatt. The approach end of Runway 16 is one mile from the Hyatt and the approach to 16 flies directly over the Hyatt. Uber will get you to the Hyatt quickly.

Final weather update from the Cambridge Hyatt beach:
CAVU two mikes in all directions, scattered bases in the distance 1,700 feet, winds calm.
Perfect. See you there!
Glenn
All flyers planning to attend the Cambridge Hyatt for a lunch splash-in:
First of all, Steve, I’m sorry I won’t see you this weekend. Even so, the party goes on! 😎
A quick local weather report. To use a lime from the song “I left my heart in San Francisco” The morning fog may fill the air, I don’t care...but actually we do care!
The nearest weather, KCGE, Cambridge Airport, about one mile away, was reporting fog and a 200 foot ceiling at 0745. At 0820 ceilings were reported as 300 overcast. Well, at the Hyatt, it’s looking like scattered to broken, and as predicted, the cloud bases are lifting. Pax River NAS 26 statute miles SW is clear, and Salisbury, 29 miles SE reported 1600 broken about an hour ago. The lack of wind has kept most reports north of Cambridge full of fog.
I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for wind to blow all the crud away.
I’ll keep you posted!
Glenn
