High Energy Physics is one of the most fascinating branches of fundamental physics. It is concerned with unraveling the ultimate constituents of matter and with the elucidation of forces between them. The experimental research in High Energy Physics is exceedingly expensive and involves millions and billions of dollars. Research in Theoretical High Energy Physics at Punjab University was initiated in 1968. In view of the outstanding contribution of the High Energy Physics Group, the Centre for High Energy Physics (CHEP)was established in November 1982. High Energy physicists trained at the Centre make their contribution to various research organizations of Pakistan and to the various educational institutions where they impart education in a much more effective way as High Energy Physics is the most fundamental area in Physics. This Centre has planned to start research in Experimental High Energy Physics under a collaborative research program with Albany High Energy Group, USA and Max-planks Institute fur Kern-Physik, Heidelberg, Germany. Phase-I of the collaboration will start in September 2001.
