Did you try storing them as bytes?

As Ashwanth has pointed , we can store them in HBase.By default all the data to be stored in HBase has to be in Bytes.
But best practice is to always store any data greater than 10 MB in HDFS and store the pointers(i mean .. url) in HBase.
