Namenode and JobTracker

Hi All,

Do we have any specific instructions while setting up JT and NN in multi node Hadoop cluster? Somebody told me JT and NN  shuld run in a same node.And I read that it should run in different nodes as both the daemons consumes lot of memory. As JT and NN communicates quite often, I felt it should be in same node. What are pros and cons of these two options?.
Any thoughts....?

Hi lakshminarayan

If your cluster is not big enough (thousands of nodes) then there should be no problem in running NN & JT on same machine. 

Usually bigger clusters have millions of HDFS files and it takes lots of NN memory that's why it is suggested to use different machines for NN & JT.
