There has been a lotta questons about the CS-1 progress lateley,so let me give you all a update and  just tell you  all of you where we stand with the CS-1,  3D Printer
as of June 5,   2012  .
First of all I want to thank you all for all your input and help so far with our project.

We are done with first phase on the host software. Roberto will fill you in more on that if you have any questions.
As you saw on the all the posts the next phase coming up is sorting out all the communication protocalls, timing etch between the host software  and hardware.
We have two prototype units and the hardware is done up to a point where we can print, and will work with the with the host software.

1-  The vat post and release is re designed  and works really well. Just a few minor changes need to be done .but the main design and electronics works great.
2-The shutter works,  but still needs a little improvement. We were trying to do away with the shutter, but that option also does not seem viable,  because of all the different projectors out there that all behaves diferentlly during initializing and startup procedures.
3-The vatfloor  we use currently use is made of silicone and we try to switch to more durable PTFE  or similar coating. It seems as the silicone burn a little white with certain Resins(Actually that only happens with HEXANADIOL DIACRYLATE wich we probably wont use in our standard resin anyway.)

If any of you can help to do some  research on the vatfloor coating that would be great!. Or just give us some links as to where we can coat some glass with PTFE.The last few companies I contacted  did not have much interest in coating a few panels of glass for me.   :o(
4-Once we we have all the parts streamlined and working well together with the host software , we will have a  better understanding of what still needs to be changed.

5-ELECTRONICS.
For those of you that wants to some Research and developing  with us
we have probably have 5 more CS-1 Shields left of this batch ,They work really well. see here:
They sell them for a introductory price of $25.00 plus shipping. At this point we only sell them un-assembled (all loose parts),It takes about an hour to assemble. We wont be printing another batch until we have the CS-1 prototype printing really good and  everything working well together .

We sell the ribbon cable harness and loose end headers for $25.00 +shipping (the main 30 pin header will be crimped on)

and the set of 4 opto boards (3 in the column and one in the vat release for $25.00( for the set +shipping)

Resin.
We some resin formulas that works, well and will also be tweaked when we start to print more.

Also , please remember that we do this all in our spare time, We do get all you e-mails and pay close attention to them,  but please be patient if we cant get to you right away, sometimes it takes a day or two.

TJ,

Thanks for this update,

I have a few information regarding vatfloor that could be of interest :

- FEP film is quite similar to PTFE but is "fully" transparent to UV  --> many suppliers here in Shenzhen offer this product
- RTV615 (GE) seems to be of interest of its permeability to gas (especially O2 that slows down resin curing...) --> cannot find reasonable price here in China
- I will also check for glass coating (like fuoroglass®).

I would like to go ahead and order a shield and the components from
you. Let me know how to do this so I can set things in motion.

Thank You,

Olivier
Tnx for the follow up
Yes that sounds promising,we do need the panes of glass coated with only ptfe  or FEP,  a plastic or mylar film would not work, that would entail another layer of glue etc.
I have e few ptfe mylar films here to experiment with.
Silicone works ,but it seems that just like you said too it  does react a little to some resins.I think the molecular chain gaps in it is a little big.
so PTFE or similar glass coating is definitely the way to go.

I just want to clarify about the components included in theCS-1 Shield kit.
The Stepper and DC  POLULU Drivers are not included in the CS-1 Shield kit.
they can be purchases from     polulu.com here
and

I will make a full kit list for the CS-1 and post the items that are included in each kit.
