Scientifically oriented question –What is the estimated size of an oil molecule?
Evidence – According to my groups calculations, using a diameters of 45mm and 0.5mm, we found that the volume of the molecule was 0.065 and I found that the area was 6361.7.
Explanation- This helped finding the size of the molecule because if you know both the area and the volume of a sphere you can find the size of a molecule.Using these numbers you find the height of the oil drop, which is the size of an oil molecule. You just plug the numbers into the formula for the volume of a cylinder and solve for the height.
Connection- This lab showed me that calculations are the most basic and most crucial part of Chemistry. The smallest miss calculations can end terribly.
Communication – I feel that I learned alot just discussing this lab in a group and it helped alot when we went over the calculations and formulas.
Reflection – Looking at Katie's Lab Report I relize that everyone may have gotten a different diameter but the formulas were the same so we got virtually the same answers and we did learn the same lesson from doing this lab.
