The students will do a group project on the topics covered after midsem.
Following are project specs.
1. A group will comprise of all students with their roll numbers ending in
the same digit. There will this be 10 groups, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
9. For administrative purpose only, the BT student with smallest roll
number and a DD student with smallest roll number will act as joint
leaders for a group.
2. Each group will develop a working application which takes in number of
hot streams, number of cold streams, their from and to temperatures and
enthalpy footprints, and HRAT as user input. It will then implement
tabular approach to decide minimum hot and cold utilities, pinch
temperature. It will also generate plots of pinched HCC and CCC and mark
enthalpy zones. It should decide minimum exchangers required in each such
zone and total heat exchangers in the HEN. You need not draw the HEN.
Identification of a threshold problem and appropriate handling should be a
part of your process. Total number of hot and cold streams need not exceed
5 each, 10 in all.
3. Use of a spreadsheet is recommended, although not compulsory.
4. Evaluation will be on 18th where 5 randomly selected students from each
group will run 5 problems provided on the spot for testing their
application. The group will come with their application loaded on five
computers for this purpose. The application itself will have to be
submitted on 15th as above.
5. 10% weight is assigned to this simple application.
