Two PhD Positions Available: Nanomaterials for Energy Applications

Start Date: Summer or Fall 2012

Our Research Group studies structure-property-performance correlation in
nanofiber-based novel materials for energy storage and conversion devices
such as solar cells, fuel cells, super-capacitors, and batteries. Our
research is funded by the National Science Foundation, Pennsylvania
Nanomaterials Commercialization Center, and Drexel University (College of
Engineering, and Steinbright Career Development Center).

We have excellent experimental and computational facilities including two
electrospinning setups for nanofiber fabrication, material characterization
equipments including transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning
electron microscope (SEM), ultramicrotomes for sample preparation, x-ray
diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), small and
wide-angle x-ray scattering, potentiostats for performance measurements in
energy storage devices, terahertz spectroscopy for charge transport
measurements in solar cells and a 96-core linux-based computer cluster for
simulations.

Project Details

.         Project involves state of the art nanofabrication, material
characterization and property/performance measurements for alternate energy
applications.

.         Project may include purely experimental work, purely computational
work, or a combination of both depending on student interests.

.         Expected PhD Completion Time: 3 - 4 years

.         Two fully funded positions (includes tuition and research
assistant stipend)

Requirements:

Masters (M.S., M.Tech or equivalent degree) in Chemical Engineering. Non-US
applicants are welcome.
