Hey guys,

Here are some quick guidelines for the Baeyer Villiger Lab Report:

1.) Don't forget to include the balanced equation AND reaction mechanism in this report. They are separate things and thus must have their own sections.

2.) IR data should be incorporated into a table (or whatever organization works for you) in your results section. This data is just the wavenumber of the major peaks and its corresponding functional group. Do not discuss your IR data in the results, save that for your discussion section! Also remember to attach your IR to the report.

3.) You may want to mention why you washed your product(s) so thoroughly with sodium bicarbonate. What was the purpose of this?

4.) Always include all calculations in your results section. You will want to calculate your percent yield, which requires determining the limiting reagent and determining a theoretical yield. This should be done in your results

5.) And as always, make sure your discussions are thoughtful and critical.

If you have any questions about anything, just let me know!

Best,

Kyle
