Parents and Friends,

While we're all racing toward the end of summer vacation, UPG truly hopes everyone has enjoyed the respite and is relaxed and ready for another great school year.

+ UPG Meeting Thursday.  UPG is ready, too, and we begin, early this year, with a meeting this Thursday, September 3rd, at 7pm at the Administration Building.  We invite you to come, bring a friend, and enjoy hearing from our District Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Darlene Davis, as she reviews the District strategic plans.

+ Agenda.  We will continue the discussion with a review of our UPG Operating Plan, which will focus this year on school climate matters for all grade levels.  Our draft Operating Plan is available for review on our website homepage at www.upgct.org.

+ Test Results.  Our thanks go out to the District for providing parents with an early look at last year's PSSA results.  Aggregate test results should be formally released soon by the State, and the presentation by the District on Tuesday indicated that the results are an improvement over last year.  This is good news.  While there are always opportunities for continued progress, we expect that the results will allow the District to focus efforts less on immediate fire-drills and more on overall quality of our curriculum and programs, and on the performance of students.  We will have more news to share once the results are made public.  (See how to sign up for immediate notice below.)

+ Parent Involvement.  As parents, it is important to stay engaged with our schools and our District administration so that we work as a team to provide the most for our children.  Your presence on Thursday is an important part of staying involved.  Please come.

+ Communications.  We want to thank the District for their outstanding work this year to revamp the website and to establish many new email distribution lists.  UPG strongly urges everyone to visit the new site (www.cheltenham.org) and to sign up for lists of interest.  Communication has been one of the strongest complaints we hear, and we're pleased with the progress being made.  Please show your support by participating and signing up.

To facilitate more timely information and community awareness, UPG plans to switch to the use of our group site at group.upgct.org for broadcast messages.  You can use this site, too.  Our site is open to anyone who would like to post information relevant to our District and the UPG objectives.  We encourage you to sign up for messages and to share your own items of interest or concern.  Also, if there is information you don't see and think should be available, let us know.  We'll be posting links to the PSSA results as soon as they are available.

+ Volunteers.
We need them!  We have open positions on our executive committee for recording secretary, corresponding secretary, and treasurer, as well as positions representing each of our schools.  These are all voting positions and you will have a voice in the direction of UPG.  If you are interested, please reply or let us know on Thursday.

Finally, this is always an exciting and busy time of the year, made busier by the late start for students.  Please do relax and enjoy the remainder of your summer and we will look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening at 7pm.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,
United Parents Group of Cheltenham Township
