Dear Parents and Friends,

Here's some news we'd like to share this week.

UPG Monthly Meeting, Friday, April 24th, 9:15am, Rm 119,
Administration Building, Guest: Dr. Ray Bavi

UPG will hold its monthly meeting this Friday with a special guest,
Director of Support Services, Dr. Ray Bavi, discussing the current
activities in his Department. With the nearing completion of Myers
Elementary, ongoing upgrades to the high school pool, and newly
announced plans to rebuild Wyncote Elementary, and many other ongoing
projects, there are sure to be topics of interest to all and we invite
you to share coffee with us.

We will also be presenting nominations for the next board of the UPG
at this meeting with voting to take place at our May 12th meeting. If
you are interesting in making UPG stronger, we invite you to attend
and participate in these discussions.

Finally, we will be discussing the development of our 2009-2010 UPG
Operating Plan. Our current operating plan can be found by visiting
http://www.upgct.org/2008-2009-operating-plan.

Earth Day At Cedarbrook, Saturday, April 25th, 12-4

Please plan to attend the third annual Cheltenham Township Community
Earth Day Festival hosted by Cedarbrook Middle School. This year's
theme is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and there will be many informative
and fun activities for all ages. At 12:30, Dr. Ray Bavi, the school
district's Director of Support Services, will deliver a presentation
entitled The Greening of Cheltenham's Schools; Myers and Beyond.

Join in the fun and educational events as well as view the many
exhibits and displays of environmentally-centered programs, products,
and technologies for a greener Cheltenham.

The festival takes place on Saturday, April 25th, from 12-4 at
Cedarbrook Middle School at 300 Longfellow Ave in Wyncote.

ADHD Presentation, Monday, April 27, 7:00 p.m.

There will be an ADHD Presentation on Monday, April 27th at 7pm, at
the Cheltenham School District Administration Building.

The Cheltenham School District and the Special Needs Advocacy Group
(SNAG) will host an informative session on ADHD. Presenter Kevin
Kelly, MS, PHD will focus on what ADHD is and how it is diagnosed. He
will discuss intervention strategies at home and at school including
behavioral and homework tips. He will highlight strategies for both
elementary and secondary students and address how ADHD impacts social
development and peer relationships. Dr. Kelly is a school psychologist
in the Quakertown Community School District and an adjunct professor
at Lehigh University. We hope you will join us.

Cedarbrook “Food for Thought” PTO Fundraiser, April 27 and May 18

Whether you have a child there yet or not, please join us for dinner
on April 27 at Max & David’s in Elkins Park and May 18 at Baja Fresh
in Abington to support all of the PTO’s good works!

Forum on Caring for Older Adults

Are you caring for an aging loved one, perhaps a spouse or parent?
Will you be in the next few years?

The Cheltenham Township Subcommittee for Older Adults (of the
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Committee) is hosting a forum that
will be rich with resources on:

• Services and programs that are available to age healthy in Cheltenham,
• How to navigate the private side of long-term care,
• Understanding dementia and healthy brain aging, the role and
importance of a geriatrician,
• Volunteer opportunities to give back and Much More

The forum will take place in the cafeteria of Einstein at Elkins Park,
60 Township Line Road, Elkins Park, 19027, Saturday, May 9, 2009

Have a little Breakfast and talk with Exhibitors at 9:00 a. m. The
forum program begins promptly 9:30 a.m. ending at 11:30 a.m.

Opportunity for Youth Trip to Johns Hopkins

Each year, Denise Jackson-Studevan takes close to 100 youths, ages 7 -
18 to Johns Hopkins University to hear a motivational presentation by
Dr. Ben Carson. Dr. Carson tells students what his mother did for his
brother and himself to insist that they "Think Big" and strive for
success. Denise is the founder of Emerald's Jewels, Inc., a 501(c)(3)
youth empowerment organization that was founded three years ago.
Emerald's Jewels helps young adults reach their potential by exposing
them to venues that allow them to dream out loud!

The trip will be on Monday, June 22nd. We will leave out of
Philadelphia at 7:30am and return by 6pm.

If you have or know of youth interested in attending this years trip
