Do you have an external hard drive attached? It appears that this software is sometimes included with the LaCie drives; in that case, you probably inadvertantly installed it when setting up the hard drive.

The problem with many external hard drives is that some mfrs include some or a lot of different softwares - none of which are necessary. If you did not format the drive when you first set it up (that would have included wiping the external drive), then the software is there and installed. That software also sometimes can cause a major problem (such as the recent debacle with WD drives and their software), so if you can find a way to get rid of it without wiping your drive, go ahead and do it.

Thanks; I see what you mean. Of course, the drive in question was a DVD reader (which I bought "just in case" for my MacBookAir). As a result, no initialisation or formatting was done (nor necessary).

As I said, deleting the software from my Library / StartupItems folder, solved my startup angry note! I only intended to use the drive to install Adobe CS6, which I can probably do from a download, but as I've got the DVD and licence, I thoought I'd use the drive. Typically, too, I plugged the DVD reader in before I switched on, and I'm guessing that the software was installed automatically (the DVD reader takes a while to appear on the desktop, so there's a bit of a clue there that it's up to something).

I notice that some "solutions" to this problem on the web, suggested that, in order to uninstall Intego Backup Assistant, especially if you do what I've done, then you had to reinstall the software, stand on one leg in the corner, put on a woolly hat and sing "Rule Britania", etc. This might well be true for a formatted drive, but for a DVD reader I can't see it'll be necessary.

Look on your mac and uninstall the intego software (probably called Family Protector or Antivirus), make sure to use the real uninstaller. It leaves behind a lot of rubbish after the uninstall, but if you want we will remove it by hand. If you do not find it look for a software with "download" in it's name.

As I said in my previous post to babowa, this is a DVD reader (not something that was "installed" - just a plug and play device), so by deleting the Intego Backup Assistant folder from my Library / LoginItems folder, the problem is solved.

OK, I meant on your Mac! But now it is not installed, it is probably a sales try (because they only have a free trial period). Disconnect the DVD, then download the Etrecheck app from www.etresoft.com, make an etrecheck list and copy/paste the list here to see if there is something on your mac.

And I noted the following new behaviour for Netbarrier, and for Virusbarrier the same connection to mixpanel.com

On the intego support pages ( About Intego - How We Started & The Latest In Mac Security - Intego ) there is mention of Third party analytics, such as Mixpanel being used for cookies (for their webpages), but no mention so far of Mixpanel for other usage (that I could so far find).
