Hello, it seems like a long time since we've spoken.  I hope that all is going well for you and your family, despite the current virus pandemic and the current political climate.  We did not deserve those new problems on top of climate change. We need to work to get our country back on its feet in order to truly make America great again.

I'm writing to tell you about Gretchen Driskell, a candidate that I support for US Congress in Michigan's 7th Congressional District. Gretchen was the first female and longest serving mayor of Saline, serving her community in that role for 14 years. Gretchen then flipped the most competitive Michigan State House race in 2012, unseating an incumbent Republican, to work on pay equity, job growth, and environmental protections in the legislature. Gretchen is now running for Congress as a conservative Democrat, to help the House and the federal government get back on their feet by using fact-informed reasoning to address important health, social and environmental issues.  The incumbent, a loyal Trump Republican named Tim Walberg, voted against the Violence Against Women Act, suggested we get rid of the department of education, and infamously said that if climate change exists, God will take care of it.  Walberg has voted with Trump's position on legislation 98% of the time.

Michigan is a battleground state, and if we are to change the national landscape of our country, we need to invest in this race.

Please consider helping us get Gretchen elected to the new House. Make a contribution here or mail checks to:

Hey everyone!

It's been a long time since we had a meeting or event.  Most other events have been cancelled, too, so there has been very little traffic on this forum.  What would people think about doing another Transition Town Chelsea potluck with a speaker and all that again?  Can such a thing be done safely at this point?

Soon after John sent his email, I gave him a call  I hadn't talked to John (or seen him) in over a month, I think.  My fault: neglecting to call.  It makes me realize how much I miss many of you.

Regarding the political content of the email: I have always wanted to steer clear of partisan politics in this forum, in part because I have developed a strong personal aversion to the whole thing, and also in part because I feel like we all need an oasis from the searing heat of an election year.  Maybe this forum can be such an oasis.

What we do need is more content on sustainability, permaculture, and community resilience,  Would you all like to share (virtually, electronically) things like how your gardens are doing, the reflections you have had during the stay-at-home time, time with family, and thoughts about how we might build a better world centered on local community?

Any takers to write your story/thoughts first?

Patrick
