Fall Greetings!
Two Important Things Up Front:
1) We're having a community meeting on 10/23 starting at 1:30pm- come along and bring your friends!
2) Our first home is making great progress: pictures below.
We have been hard at work this year; we've been continuing construction on the first home on our site- Michigan's first hempcrete home! This home will also serve as an indoor space for our early community gatherings, and serve as an example of sustainable living with renewable energy and regenerative home systems. We are also coming close to the finish line on a multi-year effort in ordinance changes and rezoning, which will allow us to build more homes for more neighbors! We look forward to forming a "founders" team, a small group of motivated, serious prospective residents to help us shape our community. We are also looking for anyone interested in helping our community, or have any interest in sustainable living.
So, we'd like to get together, to share our plans so far, updates from this year, along with group discussion and socialization. For those who are new to our project, we are going to start off with our overview presentation given by lead designer Christian Smith. Then, we break into Q&A and group discussion of several important topics. For those of you who have connected with us before, we have some updates for you.

Our First Home

Hempcrete or Hemplime is a combination of agricultural hemp and lime to make a natural, high insulation, carbon negative, beautiful home.

We worked with Fiber Fort, a Detroit start up and Americhanvre Cast Hemp to build the walls. We had a workshop on hempcrete construction with an incredible crew of passionate people in July. The workshop taught hand-tamping, which creates gorgeous stratification layers for one of the walls. Then we brought in Cameron from Amierchanvre with his uniquely constructed blower system to finish out the wall system along with the team from Fiber Fort. It impressive, the walls went up within one week! We got some great press coverage too: check it out.
We are excited to show everyone our work and celebrate the year in community!
Please let us know if you have any questions, or would like to set up a one-to-one conversation or site visit.
In gratitude,
Patrick Zieske & Christian Smith
