Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you know about a little get-together for cob plastering on my property happening this Sunday, August 29th. We (mostly Brendan Bradley) built a little experimental earthbag structure a few years ago. It can be improved. It needs a layer of cob plaster in the interior. Brendan is going to be out there on Sunday from about 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM or so.
This is a nice opportunity to hang out, learn about cob, and contribute to a really cool structure.
In addition to the cob work, Brendan is going to offer his knowledge on "wild carrot" (Queen Anne's lace) which is growing prolifically on the site, and you'll get the opportunity to pick and take home a little bundle of oregano -- which was planted and is growing on the farm.
The location is Inlandish Farms, 5601 Conway Road, Chelsea. It's on the east side of Conway at the crest of the hill. Pretty rustic conditions at present but Brendan really wanted to hurry up and do this on Sunday. Please keep in mind:
- Off-street parking is a field of grass and rather high (not super-high) weeds.
- No toilet facilities available yet.
- Cob is messy. Prepare to get mud on your clothes.
- Beliefs/preferences with regard to virus safety vary. What I'll say is that the inside of the earthbag structure is cramped quarters, which can be mitigated by not having two people in there at the same time, distancing, masks, etc. Do not even think about coming if you feel the least bit ill. Do respect the concerns of your fellow human being.
With that said, come and go as you wish during the day. I'll probably arrive 30-60 minutes after the 11:00 start time. I am sure that Brendan will be there the whole time.
Patrick
