Greetings!
We are excited to announce that Sylvan's NeighborWood is moving forward; we plan to have our first home up by spring!
We know it's been a long time since we've been in touch; like many things, our project slowed down over the last few years. Now that we're moving forward we are eager to reengage with our community. We're excited to share what we are up to at our next community meeting and pizza party on September 18th.
We'll have a presentation at 2 p.m., for new folks or those who could use a refresher on the overall scope of the community, held at Arctic Coliseum, 2nd Floor, 501 Coliseum Dr, Chelsea, MI 48118, then we will head over for oven-fired pizza and community discussion on our land at 3:30 p.m., 5601 Conway Rd, Chelsea MI, 48118. There is no mailbox, you'll find a gravel driveway on the east side of the road. We'll have plenty of cheese, sauce and dough for pizzas, and folks can bring toppings to share. You are welcome to attend either or both, as your schedule allows.
Can't wait to hear the details? Here's a quick overview: though ordinance changes with the township slowed us, we were able to continue to expand our agriculture on our site: a new well, lambs, acres of veggies and our peach trees continue to grow in their second year. Patrick's business in downtown Chelsea, Agricole, a local food grocery and cafe, has done very well in its first few years. While the zoning details get ironed out, we have decided to move forward with our community. Patrick will be building our first home, and expects to be finished by the spring. The home will have precedent setting natural construction and renewable energy systems; a home we will be proud to showcase and excited to share in community meetings beginning next year.
As usual we're eager to work with anyone, from folks who are just interested to learn more about what we are doing, to folks wanting to participate in building, planting or workshops, all the way to those folks who are looking for a home within the next few years as a Founding Member.
If you have any questions please call either of us, we'd be happy to catch up over the phone if you can't make the meeting. Looking forward to talking with you!
Warmly,
Patrick Zieske and Christian Smith
