If you would like to learn how to build a structure with hempcrete (could be a house, could be a barn, a shed, etc.), or if you are just curious, or if you like the idea of spending a day with a bunch of cool people doing something a bit "different", check out the hempcrete workshop that we are having.

We believe this is first approved home in Michigan to utilize hempcrete.  I am building it on my land as a multi-purpose structure: home, barn, and gathering space for the ecological community that I am developing.  It's about 2 miles west of Chelsea.

The workshop will be held on Friday/Saturday, July 8/9, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day.  You can attend either one or the other day, which you select on the registration page.  Lunch, materials, and tools and included in the $125 cost.  We are keeping it local as much as we can: Builder Kim Croes from Michigan is leading the workshop, advised by recognized expert Cameron McIntosh from Pennsylvania.

Details and registration here:

This is a great opportunity to learn about the hempcrete installation process, as it is being applied to our first Sylvan's NeighborWood home.  We are using the material to provide excellent wall insulation -- probably the most common use that's out there right now.

Maybe we will fire up the earth oven to bake pizzas on the workshop days, too... It's not like we can really resist...

Hi Kate and all,

Unfortunately I have to miss it, personally -- too busy with other aspects of the project.  But I should have posted it to the group!  Your email served as a good reminder, Kate.  Here is the Expo link.  Our workshop leader Kim is one of the scheduled speakers, as well as many other regional luminaries in the field.

Just putting it out there again... The first workshop day is three weeks from today!

Kim is taking alternate registrations by email or phone: in...@fiberfort.com or 248-820-7174

There are still plenty of spots open, to the best of my understanding currently.

Patrick
