The GPO4 and JABB3 sound sets listed below are updated versions of the sound sets included with Sibelius 6.2. If you are not yet running Sibelius 6.2, download and install the update before using these sound sets.

(You may have to create the Sounds folder yourself.) Sibelius Sound Set Editor The Sibelius Sound Set Editor is a free application for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.4 or later that allows you to create sound sets for Sibelius 5 or later.

Note that downloading a sound set does not make these sounds available to you. Trying to use a sound set for a device or sample library that you do not own will produce incorrect playback and other error messages.

Sibelius 7.5 and Sibelius Ultimate sound library differences?
Posted by mrdunn - 30 Jun 01:43AM Hide picture I have to reinstall Sibelius Ultimate onto a new Mac and I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's a difference between the 7.5 and Ultimate sound libraries.

I have the original 4 DVD sound library from my previous 7.5 version and would prefer to use it than download over 23GB worth of files from the Avid download page over my slow internet.

Thanks for any help. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sibelius 7.5 and Sibelius Ultimate sound library differences?
Posted by Robin Walker - 30 Jun 06:38AM Hide picture The Sibelius Sounds sample library used with current versions of Sibelius Ultimate is version 7.5.1, with one important fix since version 7.5. There is a small Sibelius Sounds Updater which should be available in your download list for updating previous installations of earlier version of the Sibelius Sounds sample library to version 7.5.1.

Previously, what version of Sibelius was the first version that you obtained from a download on the My Avid pages? Was that first version purchased as an upgrade from an earlier version, or as a new full purchase?

Sib. 7.5: Sibelius 7.5 Sound Library size
Posted by Maxjstep - 01 Apr 09:42PM Hide picture I just got my free upgrade to Sibelius 7.5 from 7. I installed that and the 7.5 sounds updater. However, I noticed that the Sibelius 7.5 sounds library is around 23gb on my downloads page. My Sibelius 7 sounds library already downloaded on my computer is around 40gb. Is the 23gb 7.5 sounds library download compressed? If not, can I reinstall the new sounds library and free up 17gb on my ssd? Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.5: Sibelius 7.5 Sound Library size
Posted by Laurence Payne - 01 Apr 10:12PM Hide picture The 7.5 sound library is a minor modification of the 7 one. So, however the download is arranged, I'm afraid the answer is no. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.5: Sibelius 7.5 Sound Library size

Sib. 8.x: Alternate Sound Libraries with Sibelius
Posted by Lea Detlefs - 27 Jan 06:58AM Hide picture Hi! Can anyone advise me on using other sound libraries with Sibelius? How is this done? Are certain libraries incompatible? I am thinking of getting a student subscription for East-West Sounds Online/Composer Cloud. Any advice would be appreciated!

Posted by Roy Moore - 27 Jan 08:18AM Hide picture The only other playback library that is plug-in-and-play (afaik) in Sibelius is Note Performer.

It is very good value but has some drawbacks - it has built in latency in order to 'read' ahead to reflect the dynamics.
It's not great if you use kit drums- but neither is Sib 7 sounds!

East West libraries are quite a learning curve and are more use in a sequencer/DAW where you can access all the samples.
If you go for EW you will have to buy a Soundset (about$25) and the iLok USB (about $40) which holds the license. I'm not sure if the iLok is needed for subscription. I have lots of EW and the samples are great but - it's a lot of effort to get them working properly and they can be quite temperamental.

In addition EW customer support is the worst I have ever experienced.
Jonathan Loving, who created the soundset, gives good support. Arne Wallander (Note Performer) also gives good support (sometimes on here)

Posted by Patrick O'Keefe - 27 Jan 05:04PM Hide picture The various Garritan libraries are pretty nearly plug-and-play as long as you follow the directions. That is, directions posted on the web by users, not necessarily the directions that come with the products. Once the libraries are installed and correctly connected to Sibelius they are as simple to use as Sibelius 7 Sounds or NotePerformer.

On the other hand, the quality varies greatly across Garritan instruments. You may not want to use the instruments even if they are easy to use.

Sib. 7.1.3: Missing Sounds
Posted by Erich Strehler - 14 Sep 03:49PM Hide picture I'm not a very experienced user, so my question might be a little bit silly. There are a lot of sounds I'm missing. For example: when I have a Surdo in my score, there should be four different sounds (open, mute, hand, rim). But actually, there is just an open sound, the selection of the others makes no difference. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for any help! Posted by Laurence Payne - 14 Sep 04:31PM Hide picture Assuming you installed the complete Sounds from all 4 disks, I think you're just expecting too much from a non-specialist sound library. Sibelius offers definitions for many more sounds than are actually provided in the Sounds, playback uses the 'best available guess'.

You could go through the sounds That ARE available to find something that does the job. Context is all! Without a title to give a clue, many people find it hard to recognise many sampled instruments :-)

PS, what's a Surdo? Don't bother, I'll look it up:-) Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.1.3: Missing Sounds
Posted by Erich Strehler - 14 Sep 05:02PM Hide picture Dear Laurence

Thank you very much for the quick reply. Your answer leads to my next question. A surdo is a brazilian bass drum. I write a lot for samba groups that have a lot of special instruments, I would need a "specialist sound library" as you call it. Is there a possibility to integrate such a library? Please apologize that I'm abusing you right for the next question, but if you come along an expert...

Yours

Erich

Posted by Robin Walker - 15 Sep 10:08AM Hide picture There is no need for another sound library. The four surdo sounds (open, mute, hand, rim) are all included in the Sibelius 7 Sounds Library.

Can you confirm that you are using the full Sibelius product, rather than Sibelius First?

Can you attach a .sib score file which has a surdo staff, so that we can see what the problem might be?

Posted by Erich Strehler - 15 Sep 03:45PM Hide picture Thanks a lot to all of you! I managed to solve the problem by reinstalling the Sibelius-7-Sounds (I have had installed them before, I checked this right after Laurence' hint). But now, they seem to work. Nevertheless, I would be interested how to use more specialized libraries, hence brazilian percussion uses a lot of very specific instruments: Repique, differently tuned surdos (which play a kind of melody), tamborim etc. which would be great to have...

But again, I highly appreciated the readiness in this forum to help.

Best wishes

Posted by Bob Morabito - 15 Sep 03:58PM Hide picture One library you might look at is "The Percussion Store"

-percussion/percussion-store.html

You have to judge for yourself if the sounds suit you, and sadly theres NO soundset for this..after Jonathan Loving had made a soundset for another product this company puts out, we tried to get them to go for a soundset for this..but it never happened.

The price is very decent, and a complete list of presets are available here:

_store_preset.pdf

I include a small attachement which shows it has the instruments you mentioned--surdo, repenique,(according to wiki this is the same as repique), tamborim

Thanks Bob

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

There's something odd here. I DIDN'T re-install anything. But they didn't work, then they did. Sort of. There certainly don't seem to be four different sounds, and the ones on the upper line are very quiet. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 7.1.3: Missing Sounds
Posted by Erich Strehler - 15 Sep 08:20PM Hide picture One mistake I made once was to choose the wrong note heads. The cross head for the Surdo hand is number five, but there's an other cross head number 24. They look the same, but if you choose No. 24, you won't hear any sound.
