Does basic HTTP authentication still works?

I was unable to use my old sources. requests return 401 when using basic HTTP authentication. Wasthere some recent changes last monthes ?

The only possibly related thing I recall was enforcing HTTPS access to all pages. 
If this doesn't help, please let me know which exactly request returns this status.
