Hi, my name is Adrija Chowdhury, and I’m a undergraduate student from India pursuing my journey toward becoming a software engineer, with a strong focus on Java and software quality practices. I have been coding in Java for the past 6 years.

I am currently persuing my bachelors in data science from IIT Madras and bachelors in Information Technology from Jadavpur University.

I have been consistently building my foundation in computer science through structured learning (including CS fundamentals and problem solving) and hands-on projects. Recently, I’ve worked on developing small-scale web tools and platforms, where I focused on writing clean, maintainable code and understanding real-world usability challenges.

I’m particularly interested in contributing to Checkstyle because it directly aligns with my goal of improving code quality and developer experience at scale. The problem of inconsistent formatting across IDEs like Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, and NetBeans is something I find both practical and impactful, especially in collaborative environments where clean diffs and standardized code style matter a lot.

Through this project, I’m excited to dive deeper into Java tooling, understand formatting engines, and contribute meaningful improvements such as refining indentation handling and aligning IDE behaviors with Checkstyle configurations. I’m also eager to engage with the open-source community, learn from experienced mentors, and iteratively improve my contributions.

I may be early in my journey, but I’m highly committed, consistent, and willing to put in the effort required to understand complex systems and deliver real impact.
