So, I would recommend you to go through the documentation at checkstyle.org to know more about the organisation. Once you have a brief idea of how it works, you can refer this page [https://github.com/checkstyle/checkstyle/wiki/To-New-Contributor] for getting started with contributions. Filter out the good first issues and start working on them after setting up the project on your local system.
