RE: Reminder of Friday and Sunday DtL Events!

Reminder that the Decolonize to Liberate working group has two events planned for this weekend (and for the Sunday one, please RSVP to Michelle at the below email!):
Friday, Aug. 24th: Connecting to the logic of genocide/colonialism from the Andrea Smith articles, we will be viewing and discussing"Tecumseh's Vision" from the "We Shall Remain" series (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/weshallremain/the_films/episode_2_trailer). Tecumseh is renowned for his vision and work to unite Indians against the colonial efforts of the United States. "With a vision of establishing an independent American Indian nation east of the Mississippi under British protection, Tecumseh worked to recruit additional tribes to [Tecumseh's] confederacy from the southern United States" (from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tecumseh). We meet at the First Parish in Cambridge, 10 Church Street, 6-8PM or so, accessible by Harvard Square T-Stop, go to the far entrance on Church Street and ring the bell on the inner door for entrance.
Sunday, Aug. 26th: Connecting to the foundational cultural/institutional oppression of heteropatriarchy from the Andrea Smith articles we're studying, a field trip is planned in partnership with the Faith & Spirituality Working Group to Wolf's Hollow in Ipswich, MA (directions on their website at http://www.wolfhollowipswich.org). Heteropatriarchy involves establishing dominance and hierarchy in relationship to Mother Earth and all her creatures. This will be an opportunity to learn about wolves and dismiss our stereotypes and fears - "Wolf Hollow is a non-profit organization established in 1990 to teach people about the importance of the wolf in the wild. Wolf Hollow offers a unique opportunity to view gray wolves in as natural a setting as possible. Come see how they interact with their pack members and live in a social unit very similar to human families." For this field trip, please confirm reply to walsh_m...@msn.com if you are planning to attend so that we can have a firm count of the group. We will meet at Wolf's Hollow by 12:45PM on this day, bring $7.50 per person and probably a bag lunch (this is a child friendly event).
