Friday, July 27th: We will view and discuss "Our Spirits Don't Speak English: Indian Boarding School," a viewing that has been promised since the Decolonize to Liberate Working Group hosted a widely attended community gathering last February. The legacies of the Indian boarding schools in the forced removal of Indian children and their impact on contemporary Indian peoples in both the United States and Canada need to be understood and shared. This is a story that is often not told and hence is often unknown outside of Indian communities, yet we all share responsibility in creating this legacy as well as in reparations (Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/343422432402983/). We recommend that you also read this essay (http://www.worlddialogue.org/content.php?id=488) to deepen your understanding of a broader analysis of colonialism in conjunction with the cultural genocidal intent of the boarding schools. What is our responsibility given our legacy of privileges for those of us who are settler colonists? Greg and Ukumbwa will be co-facilitators and we will meet from 6-8:30PM at the First Parish in Cambridge, corner of Mass Ave and Church Street, go in the 2nd far entrance on Church Street and ring the inner bell for entrance.
