Just
Received: New Museum and event passes
We now
have passes for the following events:
“Big Sing
2011” Saturday April 30, 2011 7 pm. IRA Civic Center, Grand
Rapids
“Sultry
Dances” Saturday April 30, 2011 8 pm DECC auditorium, Duluth
“Beauty and
the Beast” Thursday, May 12 7 pm at the Reif Center.
We just received
more passes for the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, but they expire April 30,
so plan to go soon!
We also have passes
available for the following:
North Shore Commercial Fishing Museum in Tofte
Judy Garland Museum and Children’s Museum in Grand Rapids
Forest History Center (visitor center only) in Grand Rapids
Greyhound Bus Museum in Hibbing
Minnesota Museum of Mining in Chisholm
Dorothy Molter Museum in Ely
Finland Heritage site in Finland
These
expire at the end of May.
If you already
have tickets, check the expiration date and plan to use them soon, as most
expire at the end of April or the end of May.
These passes have
been funded with money from the sales tax which dedicated funding to preserve
Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.
Limited Library
Hours
We are open with
limited services from 12:30-5:30 Monday-Friday, and Saturday 10-2
New carpet has been
laid in the west end of the library, and the whole process will start over in
the east end. The movers are here moving stacks and furniture down to the west
end, then the east end will be prepared and carpeted.

Localize It!
Producing Food in the Region For the Region, April 7
7 pm
U
of M researcher David Abazs will address NE Minnesota’s agricultural
carrying capacity and share a vision for what a local food production system
could look like.
Poetry workshops
on Tuesday, April 12.
Shiela Packa, the
Poet Laureate for Duluth, will host a poetry workshop for kids at 2:00 at the
Grand Rapids Fire Hall Training Room, and a workshop for adults at 7:00 at the
Library. Packa is a skilled writing teacher and the author of “The Mother
Tongue” and “Echo & Lightning.” See www.sheilapacka.blogspot.com for more information about her and her
poetry
In the afternoon workshop
at 2 pm, students in grades 4-6 will learn what a poem is and use all 5 senses
to create poetry to tell a story. Preregistration is required – call
326-7640.
In the evening
workshop at 7 pm, adults can do a few guided writing exercises that use memoir,
music and myth. Participants can choose to read and get feedback about
their own work.
The evening workshop
will be held in the Library Community Room.
Story times will continue
Join the teachers from Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) in the meeting room for a time of books, songs and rhymes, followed by a simple craft and a snack.

Mondays at 9:30 and 10:30. April 11, 18 (in the meeting room)
