What’s Happening at the Grand Rapids Area Library

August 14, 2010

Thank You! Book buyers and volunteers!

The annual HUGE used book sale at Central Square Mall was a success.    Thanks to those who volunteered before the sale for sorting transporting or set up, during the sale, or after the sale for clean-up. Thanks to the Village Bookstore and to Central Square Mall for their support! All proceeds of the sale go to the Grand Rapids Area Library Foundation and will be used for Library programs and materials. If you missed the book sale, or still need more books for summer reading, stop by the used book store inside the Library.

This Week’s events: (August 15)

Immigration and Human Rights

On Monday Aug 16 at 3 pm, The 800 Mile Wall documentary film highlights the construction of the new border walls along the U.S.-Mexico border as well as the effect on migrants trying to cross into the U.S. This powerful 90-minute film is an unflinching look at a failed U.S. border strategy that many believe has caused the death of thousands of migrants and violates fundamental human rights.
More information and a copy of an ACLU report on migrant death is available at: www.800milewall.org
Immigration and Human Rights in the United States: Policy Issues
Monday Aug 16 at 7 pm Linda Osberg Braun will talk about immigrants and human rights issues.  Ms Osberg Braun is a Grand Rapids native and is currently practicing immigration law in Miami. She is President of the South Florida Chapter of the American Immigration Law Association.
