Indies on Tuesdays
Our independent film series continues at the Myles Reif Performing Art Center on Tuesdays through August. Each Tuesday, an international award-winning independent film will be shown at 7:30 at the Reif. The remaining July films are:
July 19 How I Ended This Summer a drama set on a meteorological station in the Arctic Circle. (filmed in Russia in Russian)
July 26 Illegal, a drama of home, country, and belonging, (Filmed in Belgium, Luxumbourg and France in French and Russian)
Great Decisions Discussion: Sanctions and Nonproliferation
Wednesday, July 20 at noon in the Riverview Room of the Library.
Sanctions have been created to curb nations in violation of international law, especially agreements concerning nuclear nonproliferation. How successfully have sanctions been applied against past violators? Is there any chance sanctions can curtail North Korea and Iran from continuing to develop nuclear weapons? http://www.fpa.org

Humanitarian Help for Haiti Wednesday, July 20, 7 pm
Renee Perrington was part of a small group from northern Minnesota that made a humanitarian mission trip to Haiti. Members of her team will share observations from their experiences and what is still needed.
Chess Club

Our teen summer reading program is still in
progress. Read a book, complete a review and enter a drawing each week for fun
prizes! Our 2nd Annual Teen Photo Contest continues also. Teens can submit
photos until July 23rd. Stop at the reference desk for a submission form.
One World Many Stories
Kids (ages 0-14) can sign up for our summer reading
program, pick up a reading log, and keep track of their reading. Bring back the completed log by July 30 and get a free book to keep! Children under age 5
completing the summer reading program are eligible for Baby Steps Coupons.
Also be sure to pick up a list of all the fun programs
scheduled for the summer.
Story times will continue all summer. Bring the little ones for a fun time.

Books needed
We are accepting gently used books, CDs and DVDs and
puzzles for our annual used book sale to be held during Tall Timber Days in
August. Bring items to the circulation desk at the library through August 3rd.
If you need a cart, or help getting boxes from your car, let us know. All
proceeds go towards purchasing new materials and for programs at the library.

The book sale will be in Central Square Mall on Friday, August 5th from 8:30 am – 8:00 pm, Saturday, 9:00-6:00, Sunday 11:00 – 4:00 (bag sale)
Go Fish!
We have fishing rods for loan thanks to the local DNR Fisheries Division,
local merchants and the Grand Rapids Evening Rotary Club. Fishing rods and
PFDs for children and adults can be used on the fishing pier or along the
river or borrowed for guests if you don’t have enough!
Construction Zone
Hawk Construction is beginning work on a small building on the west end of the Library grounds. This will house a heat exchange unit that will transfer waste heat from the water discharged by the paper mill to the Library’s heating system.
