HOORAY! 2010 is off to a fantastic start for Open Books -- we just found out that we're in the final voting round for a $20,000 grant, which would help us fund our Buddies program for hundreds of kids in some of Chicago's most challenging neighborhoods. To make it this far, we submitted a detailed proposal explaining how we match each child with his or her own adult Reading Buddy, how they spend time every week reading together, and how the program has given many of these children the first book they've ever owned.
