These are excellent light fixtures, I am very happy with the purchase. The product description doesn't seem to indicate this, but you can read on the box that these lights can be used for surface mounting, or recessed applications. In most cases the recessed application will look better, but it's good that they can be used either way. I've installed four of these so far, and my home previously had three of these mounted in various places, and the bulbs seem to have just the right amount of light output without being too bright. The bulbs last for quite awhile as well (rated at 10,000 hours), I've only had to change one of the preexisting bulbs in the two years that I've lived here and none of the newer ones which I installed about a year ago. I should mention that the bulbs can get hot if left on for a long time, so it's important to have a cover (see link at the bottom of this post for the matching cover [1]) for them and make sure they're out of reach of children (two of my lights are in the top of a 6 foot tall cabinet so they didn't need covers, especially because there is a glass door on the cabinet as well, but most applications will look better and be safer with covers).

The lights are easy to install, but I want to mention that the instruction manual indicates that you should cut a particular sized hole (maybe 2-5/8", I don't have the instructions anymore) for a recessed application, but I only had a hole saw almost half an inch smaller so in order to see if I should buy the size they recommended I drilled a hole in an old piece of wood I had in the garage and the light fit perfectly, so I don't think you need a hole saw as big as they recommend. To be safe, it'd be a good idea to test it on an old piece of wood if you have one laying around.
