I live in a tiny, New York City apartment and needed a lift bed with hydraulics for storage space. This bed fit the bill and did not cost an arm and a leg (e.g. $850++) and had the smallest footprint. The lift mechanism works quite well and can support a heavy mattress on it. You just lift it a bit and the hydraulics take over, much like in a hatchback car. Keep in mind that this is an all-metal construction. I originally thought the panels on the bottom (brown) were wood, but they are metal.

It took me 2 hours to assemble this bed. Except for the 4 bolts total for the hydraulics, there are no screws in assembly. Why did I rate this 3 stars?

* very poor build quality. The metal pieces that snap into each other are sometimes mis-aligned. I had to spend a lot of time with a hammer forcing the pieces into place and having them snap. Ideally when one metal tube fits into another, there is a small spring-activated round ball that locks the joints together (kind of like the tubes in a vacuum cleaner). The problem is the alignment issue and sometimes the little metal ball collapses into the tube and does not come back out.
* VERY POOR instructions. Sometimes the illustration is plain wrong. I had to Google up images of the bed to see how to put some sections together. It was like a puzzle. I am not sure everyone has the patience for that.
* The metal panels on the bottom (brown) are welded at a few points to hold it in place....but also held together by glue!! The factory missed one weld point and the panel on the edge was coming off because the glue did not hold it in place. Luckily this is not an issue because when you snap it into another corner piece, it pushes the panel back down.
* the rubber feet on the bottom....these pads slip right off after doing some pushing of the bed on a hardwood floor. If you don't want to have your floor scratched, I'd recommend getting long, rectangular felt pads and lining the bottom.

Overall I am satisfied with this bed. It does not squeak or make noises when you are on top of the mattress. It's very firm and sturdy. If the pieces were manufactured precisely, I think the bed could have been assembled in 30 to 45 min with good instructions. I am still happy with the bed and glad that I only paid a total price of USD 425.05 that included tax and shipping. Good luck!
