Title: Oracle HCM Platform Engineer

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Onsite)

Duration: Long term

1. Core Technical Skills (The "Must-Haves")

An engineer on this platform must know how to move data in, move data out, and customize the system logic. Look for deep experience in:

  • HDL (HCM Data Loader) & HSDL (Spreadsheet Data Loader): This is critical. They must know how to bulk-load complex enterprise, workforce, and person structures without breaking data relationships.
  • Fast Formulas: Oracle’s proprietary scripting language. They need to write and debug Fast Formulas for things like validation rules, assignment changes, and custom user-defined logic.
  • HCM Extracts: The primary tool used to pull data out of Oracle HCM for external downstream systems. They should be experts in defining delivery options, changes-only (incremental) tracking, and data packaging.
  • BI Publisher (BIP) & OTBI (Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence): Look for advanced SQL query experience here. They need to build complex data models in BIP and ad-hoc operational dashboards in OTBI.

2. Integration & Modern Cloud Architecture

Oracle Cloud environments heavily rely on real-time and cloud-native integrations.

  • OIC (Oracle Integration Cloud): Experience building automated, real-time integrations between Oracle HCM and third-party systems (e.g., active directories, third-party payroll providers, or external background check vendors).
  • REST and SOAP APIs: Ability to trigger processes and sync data seamlessly using standard web services.
  • ATOM Feeds: Highly useful for Core HR platform engineers; this tracks real-time employee data changes (like a termination or hire) to trigger instant downstream actions.

3. Platform Configuration & Extensibility

  • Enterprise & Workforce Structures: Deep understanding of configuring the baseline "skeleton" of the company: Business Units, Legal Entities, Departments, Grades, Locations, and Positions.
  • Redwood UX & Visual Builder Studio (VBS): Oracle has fully migrated its user experiences to the modern Redwood design language. The candidate must know how to use Visual Builder Studio (VBS) to configure, extend, and customize pages, as older tools (like Page Composer) are deprecated.
  • Workflows and Approvals (BPM Worklist): Setting up complex, multi-tier approval routing for HR transactions (e.g., a promotion requiring manager $\rightarrow$ director $\rightarrow$ HR business partner approval).

4. Security Frameworks

  • Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Creating and modifying Job Roles, Abstract Roles, and Duty Roles.
  • Security Profiles & Data Roles: Core HR data is highly sensitive. The engineer must know how to restrict data visibility so a manager in India can only see records for India-based employees, using complex security criteria.

5. Maintenance & Lifecycle Management

  • Quarterly Upgrade Management: Oracle pushes automated cloud updates every quarter. The candidate must know how to perform regression testing, utilize the What’s New readiness documentation, and proactively identify features that might impact current custom setups.
