I purchased this motherboard with the intent of using it to set up highly parallel MD simulations, in combination with the Opteron 6272 16-core cpus I had purchased. Tyan's website said this board would work with the 6272s, but it turns out (after a couple of weeks going back and forth with their customer service, which left a lot to be desired) that I had to ship the BIOS chip back to them in order to flash it to a newer BIOS that was able to handle the 6272s. I don't know if this has recently changed, as I purchased this board a year ago.

This board is a hoss when fully populated though -- I'm currently running 4 GTX780s in full 16x mode for each one to run GPU-accelerated MD simulations, which makes up for the lower speed of the AMD cpus. My rating is only 2 stars because there is a dearth of information on this board on Tyan's website, and their documentation on the BIOS is criminally lacking. I had to track down a physical phone # for Tyan at their Fremont, CA HQ through the yellow pages, since they didn't list it on their website, to obtain all the necessities to flash the BIOS chip. If I had it all to do over again, I would have shelled out the extra bills for a Supermicro board -- everyone that I've spoken with has had good customer service with them.
