This small teak side table is the latest in my teak lawn furniture acquisitions. Two teak lawn armchairs were made in China, and the others were made in Indonesia. This item is typical Indonesian quality: very good but not perfect. Example: three of the four legs fit firmly and seated perfectly when the half inch lag bolt was tightened. The fourth leg was a loose fit in the top assembly and did not tighten well. I expected I would strip the thread in the leg if I tightened it as well as the others so it is slightly loose. I may have to remove it and insert some very thin material to wedge it in place better - plus some special teak friendly wood glue.

I shouldn't have to do that. But with "some assembly required" furniture it's par for the course. Also there were some small marks in several places on the top which look like careless tool marks or perhaps some minor abrasion in shipping from halfway around the world. So, you won't get an absolutely perfect teak item.

What you will get, assuming the legs mount firmly (and I highly recommend using a half inch ratchet wrench although any decent half inch manual wrench will do - no tool supplied), is the quality of the teak wood itself which is excellent. I used a brand of furniture polish called Old English which turned the normal light teak color into a deep glowing teak finish. As a sailor I have a little experience in teak maintenance and construction. Each teak fancier will have his own favorite finish (or no finish - none needed for teak). What I don't recommend is varnishing it. But some people love the shiny varnish finish and I wish them well when the varnish flakes off years later.

This is solid teak. The top slats look about a quarter inch in thickness and are supported in the center by a cross strut so I assume you could stand on this and use it as a stool occasionally. As a lawn furniture item you will be very happy with this. Teak, if untreated, weathers to a light gray but virtually never splits. It is an oily wood with strength which works well with tools. To be surrounded by teak furniture is a special pleasure. I am delighted to see this item offered at what I consider a reasonable price. The time from my order placement to the shipper in Santa Barbara in California to receiving it in New England via FedEx was nine days.

Despite my quibbles about this item above, I recommend it - in fact, I may order one or two more. I like teak.
