Dear Travis County Democrat,
Thank you to everyone who took the time to come to the Capitol yesterday and make their opposition to these very terrible bills known. People waited for hours just to fill out cards while others had the opportunity to give oral testimony. Many also peacefully marched to and from the Capitol.
Everyone made us proud.
There are two very exciting advocacy opportunities
TODAY, July 9th, and we'd love to have you join us at an event that is convenient for you.
House Floor Debate and Vote - House Bill 2
Time: 10AM Location: Capitol, House Gallery (3rd floor)
The doors to the Capitol will open at 7AM, and the house will be debating and voting on HB2, the anti-abortion omnibus bill. The House Gallery will be accessible at 9:30AM, but we have been told the lines began forming rather early and there is a mixed presence. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage in the democratic process, wear orange and provide Representatives with a strong visual that reminds them that we're still here, and we'll continue to stand with Texas women.
We would really love to have a strong presence in the Capitol at today's hearing.
Stand With Texas Women Voter Registration Drive
Time: 11AM-1PM Location: 2300 Guadalupe (in front of Jamba Juice)
This is the first stop of the Bus Tour. Join Cecile Richards and get registered to vote! And if you're a voter deputy, feel free to come on out and help us register voters!
If you only have a short period of time off during lunch, this is a great chance to show support without having to deal with the madness that is the Capitol.
We cannot back down now. The Texas GOP hopes we will rollover and forget about their actions. They hope that you won't stand up. But we know here in Travis County we are used to showing up early, getting loud, staying late and wearing orange.
We will keep up the fight.
If you need a fresh Stand With Women T-shirt, the TCDP has you covered. Our fresh order of shirts has been flying out of the boxes,
click here if you would like to order one today. Shirts are free to folks who become a sustaining member of the Travis County Democratic Party with a
$10 monthly contribution, or for a one time donation of
$25 dollars or more. Get yours quick before they are gone!
Thank you again for all of your support, time and enthusiasm!
Sincerely,
Jan Soifer, Chairwoman
Travis County Democratic Party
p.s. I want to thank our Communications Director Joe Deshotel, who has been creating social media content and working hard around the clock on this effort. His meme we posted on Facebook yesterday has 2,400 shares and reached more than 190K people! We know why -- it sums up everyone's feelings on Governor Perry's announcement that he will not seek another term nicely!
