Hi friends,
some of you many know Sara Axtell from her PubH6066 Building Communities to Increase Public Health Capacity course that is offered every fall.  Sara asked me to pass along this info for a new course she and Elder Janice are offering this fall.

Check it out if you're interested, and stay cool!

FSOS 5150: Special Topics in Family Social Science
Healing Community-Institution Relationships

Social service, health care, and educational institutions are emphasizing community engagement, but efforts will not succeed without understanding historical and cultural
contexts.

FSOS 5150 will examine some of the historical and cultural contexts for community-institution relationships in the United States, and the impact this history has on our current attempts to engage with communities. Students will have the opportunity to talk to members of partnerships who are working to heal the relationships between communities and institutions, and begin to develop skills for participating in community-institution healing.

3 credit course, Fall 2011
Class meets Fridays, from 1:55 - 4:40 PM
Class location: Cultural Wellness Center,
1527 East Lake Street, Minneapolis, MN 55407
(corner of Bloomington and Lake)

Registration is now available at http://onestop.umn.edu
