This will be the last set of blurbs before the historic event in Washington DC. It is not every day that America will inaugurate its first African American President. So if you get a chance to watch I truly suggest you watch it all partisanship aside. I will be closely watching the new chief of staff Rahm Emanuel who is an outspoken Jewish politician, has been chose to be The White House Chief of Staff, one of the Presidents highest ranking advisors. He is one of the highest raking Jewish politicians.

Ladies and Gentlemen if you want to have fun on the weekend of February 27 to March 1, you must come to CHAZAK SPRING KINNUS. It will be off the HOOOOOK.

"Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal."

Hey chazak
Adrenaline coursed through my veins, as the chants of "We stand for Israel" echoed around the streets of the city. Dancing with friends and random strangers to am yisrael chai was so much fun. The Rally in support of the troops in Israel was a huge success, 10,000 people! TEN THOUSAND! It was ridiculous seeing ten thousand people wave their red hats in support of Israel. At the rally, us supporters were given red hats. These hats are a symbol for the red alerts people face in Sderot, where the citizens have 15 seconds to run to safety once a siren is randomly raised. With all the fighting many people are questioning what Israel should do. So, I made a poll of possible solutions to the conflict, please take it. http://snappoll.com/poll/309030.php If you have any other suggestions or want to talk about Israel please free to email or facebook me. Please email me on anything Israel related. I love talking about our homeland. This week's song of the week is Esh by Moshe Peretz. If you have any suggestions on the song of the week, please contact me.
Your Israel VP

To my favorite people in the world,

This week's Parsha is Shemot, the first in the second book of the Torah.  During the commercial break, the Jews became slaves in Egypt, but in this episode Moses grows up and confronts Pharaoh!  Go watch Prince of Egypt.
Fun Fact:  Moses had a speech impediment.  Some say he burned his tongue as a baby in a story involving angels, gold, and some hot coals.  I leave it to your imagination.  Or you could e-mail me to find out more.

YIDDISH WORD OF THE WEEK:  GAHN-iff.  It means "thief," "trickster" or "scheamer" like Bernie Madoff.  Try to use it in conversation at least once this week!

Finally, if you should wonder if, say, the mass closings of Broadway shows signify the coming of the apocalypse, feel free to e-mail me!  I take questions and comments. ALSO E-MAIL ME IF YOU WANT TO LEAD OR READ FOR KINNUS.

Already Excited for Spring Kinnus,

Chazak! Over MLK weekend, USY is participating in the National Day of Service. For us, it's a PB&J sandwich making brigade. That means that USYers across the US and Canada will be making sandwiches for the hungry! Sandwiches will be donated to local food pantries of your choice. Please check out the event http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=40806864827&ref=ts on facebook. I absolutely encourage EVERY chapter to join in at least one day for this nation-wide cause, my chapter certainly will be!!!!!! If you have any questions, definately email/IM me (shay...@aol.com) or send me a facebook message.
Looking foward to your contributions,
Shaina Stern Social Action/Tikun Olam VP 0809

Heyyyyy Chazak!
Happy New Year!!! I hope you all had fun winter vacations and all of that.
We have SOO much fun stuff coming up! So we've started planning out Spring Kinnus which is at Temple Beth Sholom in Roslyn Heights the last weekend in February and it will be AMAZING. I will objurgate all those that are not in attendance so you better all be there!!! But really, this is Eddie Ward's last Kinnus EVER and we want Eddie's reign to end with a bang. So sign up for kinnus, bring your friends!
To add some Mem/Kad all up in here, I will give you guys a challenge this week. For the next chapter event you go to, bring one of your jewish friends. Just one, for just one chapter event. Tell them it's totally non-committal and it's only two hours out of their day. It's a really small non-committal thing to do that has a huuuge impact! Tell me how it goes!
Also any questions, comments, anything... you know where I'm at! And if you don't I'll list my info below

You stay classy Chazak.
