WEEKLY (sort-of) BLURBS!!!!!
What's up Chazak? This week has been a busy one in Israel.
Election day for the Prime Minister position was February 10th. With
the votes all tallied up the Kadima Party head, Tzipi Livni, won the
elections by a single seat. Now it is up to her to form a coalition
government. Last time, she could not accomplish the feat, which led to
the elections. Hopefully even with the right wing block she will be
able to do so. In other news, there are talks about an 18 month
ceasefire with Gaza. Also there are talks of having Gilad Schalit
returned to Israel. I pray that he returns safely. FREE GILAD!!!!!
-Josh SniderMy Dearest and Darlingest Momsies and Popsicles,
This week's Parsha is Yitro, where we list the ten Commandments. Think you know them all?
http://www.sporcle.com/games/commandments.php The quiz counts them a little differently though.
Fun Fact: This is one of the only Torah portions named after a
non-Jew. Yitro was Moses' father-in-law. You may remember him as the
guy in Prince of Egypt who sang "Through Heaven's Eyes," voiced by
Brian Stokes Mitchell. In the Torah, he helps develop a Court system.
YIDDISH WORD OF THE WEEK: Yente. No, not the matchmaker from "Fiddler
on the Roof." Her name is a pun, and it means "someone who gossips."
Try to use it at least once this week!
Finally, e-mail me with any questions and comments, such as "I wish
pigs were kosher," or "could we genetically a pig to have split hooves
and chew its cud to make it kosher?" ALSO E-MAIL ME IF YOU WANT TO LEAD
A SERVICE AT KINNUS.
See you in a couple weeks,
Gaby Geselowitz (Religion/Education VP)

hazak, Chazak..
If you read my salutation to tune of the song that Visions sang at
encampment, sweeeeeeeet; that was my intent. OK, so we all know about
America's current economic state. Basically, this is the perfect time
to be volunteering our time and participating in social actions. Any
sort of community service would be hugely appreciated by whomever you
assist, and you'd truly be contributing to society! Also, to continue
my trend of supplying a description of a USY T/O Allocation per blurb,
this week's is called Bayit Cham. Bayit Cham is a rehabilitation
organization in Israel. Their main focus is helping patients, Jews and
non-Jews alike, suffering from mental/emotional illnesses. This is one
of the many places you're Tikun Olam contributions are delegated;
sounds like a pretty good cause to me. Anyway, have a beast February
break and get ready for some social actions and tikun olam programming
at CHAZAK SPRING KINNUS!! See you in about two weeks!
