Hello Berkeley and beyond,
We invite you to join us for a special observance of the
Vernal Equinox on Friday, March 20 at 6pm at the Chavez/Huerta Solar Calendar. (

This year, we welcome back very special guests and partners as we explore Mayan Sun Observations with:
- Exploratorium hosts Michelle Salgado, PhD, Senior Science Educator, and Sonia Castillo, Senior Living Systems Lab Technician
- Yucatec Maya Jarana Dance Group Performances
- Jason Del Aguila, Observer of the Mayan Day Count
- Tiger Williams, Golden Bridges School, 8th Grade Service Learning Project
- Vivian White, Astronomical Society of the Pacific
We gather each spring in the spirit of Hope, one of the four virtues of Chávez/Huerta and the Farmworkers Movement. The east is commonly associated with the rising sun , birth, and new beginnings. The Spring season begins a new cycle in nature and the planting season of agriculture. Take a moment to join us as we observe the sunset together at 7:21 on the equinox - the time when day and night are equal lengths.
Looking up together,
Your stewards of the Chavez/Huerta Solar Calendar
“And I wonder, particularly in a time where everything seems urgent, what the role of pause and breath is, in this season, to help us gear up for whatever this transformational moment we find ourselves in is.”
Rev. Jen Bailey
