Hello Berkeley and beyond, 

We invite you to join us for a special observance of the Vernal Equinox on Friday, March 20 at 6pm at the Chavez/Huerta Solar Calendar. (map here) 

This year, we welcome back very special guests and partners as we explore Mayan Sun Observations with:

• Exploratorium hosts Michelle Salgado, PhD, Senior Science Educator, and Sonia Castillo, Senior Living Systems Lab Technician
• Yucatec Maya Jarana Dance Group Performances
• Jason Del Aguila, Observer of the Mayan Day Count
• Tiger Williams, Golden Bridges School, 8th Grade Service Learning Project
• Vivian White, Astronomical Society of the Pacific

We gather each spring in the spirit of Hope, one of the four virtues of Chávez/Huerta and the Farmworkers Movement. The east is commonly associated with the rising sun , birth, and new beginnings. The Spring season begins a new cycle in nature and the planting season of agriculture. Take a moment to join us as we observe the sunset together at 7:21 on the equinox - the time when day and night are equal lengths.
