Hello Community,
Even as we enjoy the warmest part of Bay Area summer, we notice the days shortening and the changing of the seasons. Join us at the Chávez Huerta Solar Calendar in celebrating the
Fall Equinox with Rabbi David Cooper and friends from
6 -7:15pm on Sunday, Sept 21st - sunset at 7:07. We gather that evening in strength to invoke the much-needed virtue of
Courage – Viva La Huelga
Finding Ourselves in Space and Time. Our ancestors’ understanding of what are – solstice, equinox and (yes) sunset was turned upside down pretty recently by Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton. We forget how radical a change it was. We will get to see how frightening it was to be the first person to see the world differently. And of course we will watch the “sun set” over our equinox markers and feel where we are in the annual cycle. More information:
Also! Don't miss another special event - Berkeley City College, Chicanx Student Development, and UC Berkeley Labor Center are co-sponsoring a
free screening of American Agitators on Thursday September 25th at 5:30pm! Award-winning filmmaker Raymond Telles illustrates through the life of Fred Ross Sr. how collective action can create long term, positive change especially at a critical moment in American history.
Looking up,
Viv, on behalf of the Stewards of the Solar Calendar
