October 15th at 7pm EST - Edward Barnes Virtual Lecture: Dolly Parton
One of the most beloved and versatile musical artists of all time, Dolly Parton rose from humble beginnings in the Smoky Mountains to become a global superstar and a defining voice in American pop culture. In this online lecture, composer/producer Edward Barnes traces the extraordinary journey of the woman who transformed a gift for songwriting into a far-reaching entertainment empire—all while retaining her signature warmth, wit, and sparkle. From her early days as a staff songwriter in Nashville to her breakout as a Country Western television star, Hollywood leading lady, and even a theme park mogul, Dolly’s path is as remarkable as it is inspiring. Discover the joy, generosity, and fierce intelligence that power this cultural icon—and why, as she sang in 1966, “this dumb blonde ain’t nobody’s fool.” Edward Barnes is an award-winning composer, lyricist, and producer. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he is the winner of Guggenheim and NEA Fellowships, and the Stephen Sondheim Award for “the creation of innovative musical theater.”

October 19th at 5pm EST - Dr. Vino Virtual Wine Tasting: Native Grapes of Italy: Parte Due!
Italy is the home to over 500 native grape varieties. Surprisingly, many remain under the radar despite being rewarding in the glass. During this session, we will explore a white and a red from central and southern Italy. For the white, we will taste a top example of a luscious white from Campania. For the red, we will venture back to our beloved Tuscany but look to one of the supporting grapes elevated to a starring role. This online session will be led by Tyler Colman, Ph.D., a leading wine writer and wine educator who offers wine experiences through Tylermade Tours.

December 17th at 7pm EST - Edward Barnes Virtual Lecture: Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash was an American singer, songwriter, and cultural icon whose deep, resonant voice and emotionally unflinching songs made him one of the most influential figures of 20th-century music. In this online lecture, composer/producer Edward Barnes traces the arc of Cash’s remarkable life—from his hardscrabble beginnings in rural Arkansas to his breakthrough as a rockabilly pioneer at Sun Records in Memphis, and his evolution into a towering presence in Nashville, Hollywood, and beyond. The program explores Cash’s battles with addiction, the transformative personal and creative partnership he shared with singer-songwriter June Carter, and his astonishing late-career resurgence through raw, haunting cover recordings of songs by Tom Petty, U2, and Nine Inch Nails. This is the story of an artist whose voice embodied the American experience—gritty, haunted, faithful, and enduring. Edward Barnes is an award-winning composer, lyricist, and producer. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he is the winner of Guggenheim and NEA Fellowships, and the Stephen Sondheim Award for “the creation of innovative musical theater.”
