All performances will be held in the Amphitheatre on the Chautauqua grounds. There are no gate fees during this week. Proof of vaccination will be required to attend. Masks are mandatory in the audience.
On Monday, August 31 at 7:30pm, Soprano Margaret Woods and Pianist Ingrid Keller will perform a medley of music to include, Gershwin’s, Summertime, Puccini’s, Mio Babbino Caro, Art Song in French and Italian and some Duke Ellington to name just a few They frequently perform together in solo/two-piano/four-hand recitals and in two-piano orchestral engagements.
On Thursday, September 2 at 7:30pm, Encore will present Two for a Song
(Doug Bowles, tenor and Alex Hassan, piano) a duo of two guys totally immersed in the piano and vocal styles and repertoire of the period “between the wars” of 1920 – 1940, or so. Their specialty is presenting you with songs of the great Composers of popular, musical theatre and movie songs of the 20s and 30s. Not only will you be presented with fresh, authentic, and virtuosic performances of songs you KNOW, but also by “new” songs discovered through the pair’s research into lost and forgotten repertoire of well-loved Composers long past. They are delighted to be appearing for ENCORE in beautiful Chautauqua as their first live and in-person gig since the onset of the pandemic.
A grand finale choral concert will be presented on Friday, September 3 at 2pm as the culminating event of the Choral Institute. More than 80 participants in the Choral Institute will perform a finale concert that will include pieces from a variety of musical genres, Let the River Run, Irving Berlin’s America, I Dream a World, Gloria Patri and others.
