Do you feel the crispness in the air, see the colors of autumn forming in the trees, and sense an anticipation of something exciting around the corner? That’s because it’s time for the AAUW What’s New Fair.  

What is the AAUW What’s New Fair? In short, it’s an amazing business Fair where about 65 merchants will be selling their Christmas goods.  

Where? The 56th Annual AAUW What's New Fair” will be held at the Hamilton Collegiate Center (student union) at Jamestown Community College. 

When? This Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13.  Hours on Saturday are 10 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for JCC/JBC Students with ID, $1 for children 6-12; children 5 and under admitted free.  Ample parking is available on the JCC Campus. 

What is the purpose? Proceeds are awarded as scholarships to female JCC and JBC graduates who are pursuing four-year degrees. More than $260,000 of AAUW’s What’s New Fair proceeds have been given to over 300 young women in the area in the last 55 years. These scholarships have given these women the opportunity to pursue their dreams through higher education. Scholarship applications will be available at the Student Development Office after January 1, 2012. 

What exciting things happen at the Fair? What else is happening? While at the fair enjoy personalized gingerbread cookies at the AAUW Gingerbread House. Cookies are $2 each or 3 for $5.  

Enjoy delicious home-baked delectable such as brownies, cookies, fudge, candy at our Sweet Shoppe. 

Raffle tickets will be available at the cost of $1 per ticket or $3 for 5 tickets. The drawing for these prizes will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. More than 30 Local Merchants, Restaurants, Cultural and Educational Organizations have donated prizes. 

Each hour throughout the Fair, a door prize will be drawn from the Fair admission tickets. These prizes are donated by the participating merchants. You must be present to win a door prize. 

Will there be entertainment? Yes. On Saturday from 11 – 11:30 Carol Svensen will play the piano. A Zumba demonstration by Curves will rock the house from 2 – 2:30, so plan on trying that out. On Sunday from 11-11:30 Bill Ekstrom will play acoustic guitar, and then from 1 – 2:30 Cathy Gagliano, piano, and Vince Micceche, bass guitar will perform a duet. 

Can I join this awesome organization? Absolutely! To become an AAUW member, a minimum of a two-year degree from an accredited college is required. Stop by the AAUW membership booth at the What’s New Fair. The membership annual fee is reduced to $44.50 if a new member joins at the Fair (checks/cash are accepted). Also, from the new members who join at the Fair, one will receive a free membership. The drawing will occur on Sunday afternoon after the raffle drawing.
