Edward Barnes Virtual Lecture: Lin-Manuel Miranda

Lin-Manuel Miranda is one of the most influential voices in contemporary American theater. In this online lecture, composer/producer Edward Barnes traces Miranda’s path from his New York City childhood to the creation of In the Heights and the cultural phenomenon Hamilton. Highlighting his musical influences and storytelling style, the program explores how Miranda blends heritage, history, and innovation to shape the future of American musical theater. Edward Barnes is an award-winning composer, lyricist, and producer. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he is the winner of Guggenheim and NEA Fellowships, and the Stephen Sondheim Award for “the creation of innovative musical theater.”

Dr. Vino Virtual Wine Tasting: Paint the Town Rosso

Get more out of Italian wine with a deeper understanding of the term “rosso.” While casual observers would be forgiven for thinking it means simply “red” we will explore how this category can be a back door for unlocking a strong category of value from top producers. To put this to the test, we will try two outstanding “rosso” wines, one from the north of Italy and one from Tuscany. This online session will be led by Tyler Colman, Ph.D., a leading wine writer and wine educator who offers wine experiences through Tylermade Tours.

Dr. Vino Virtual Wine Tasting: Wine Book Club: the Life of a Wine Importer

Kermit Lynch is a legend in American wine. After opening his Berkeley, CA wine shop in 1972, he went on to become one of the most formative and influential wine importers of his generation. We will discuss Kermit’s passion for wine and what drew him to importing wine from artisanal producers through the lens of his 1988 book, Adventures on the Wine Route. To accompany our discussion, we will have a gorgeous white wine and a red from very old vines. Note: the reading is optional! This online session will be led by Tyler Colman, Ph.D., a leading wine writer and wine educator who offers wine experiences through Tylermade Tours.
