The trees are marked for an arborist to examine them. Earlier this spring, we were delighted to share news of the Bestor Plaza Fountain Restoration project, made possible with primary support from Willow and Gary Brost and additional support from Bonnie and Jim Gwin. That project remains on track for completion before the Summer Assembly starts. It is so wonderful to have this support that builds on the original gift from Chautauqua President Ralph Norton who personally funded the fountain project in 1946 as a tribute to his predecessor, President Arthur Bestor. The Bestor Plaza Fountain Restoration is a major part of the Bestor Plaza Sesquicentennial Project. The next phase begins next week, as we make aesthetic and accessibility improvements to the Miller Avenue and Ames Avenue ends of Bestor Plaza. The use of brick pavers will be expanded, with decorative Miller Bell Tower medallions at each end. The attached drawing provides a sense of the project from the Miller Avenue end of the plaza. The project also includes repairs to the fountain in front of the Post Office building, funded by an allocation from the 2024 Capital Preservation budget. Construction on Miller Avenue started Wednesday, May 1 and is expected to conclude by Friday, June 14. During this work, Miller Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic from Pratt Avenue to Roberts Avenue. After that work is complete, Ames Avenue will be closed in front of the Colonnade for some period as well. Alternate routes will be provided. Pedestrian traffic will not be impacted during construction. Please continue to patronize the Bestor Plaza businesses and operations, including Common Grounds (available through the Memorial Day weekend), Smith Memorial Library, the Chautauqua Bookstore, Chautauqua Post Office, and the privately owned shops in the Colonnade and St. Elmo (as posted by business owners). We express appreciation for a gift in memory of Paul and Toni Branch and a gift from Cathrine and Craig Greene, in addition to those of Willow and Gary Brost, and Bonnie and Jim Gwin, which have collectively made the Bestor Plaza Sesquicentennial Project possible. My insurance agent suggested I have a water monitoring and leak detention system pit on the house. We will receive a discount from the insurance plus never have to worry about water issues. My agent recommended Beagle Services https://www.beagleservices.com/homeowners I’ve contacted them and was told they will come to the chq area when they have enough systems scheduled to install in the area. If anyone is interested please contact them and get added to the list. Jeanne Golden Sent from my iPad |

Keith Rogers <keithc...@gmail.com>: May 05 01:40PM -0400
I have 10-12 dock posts (for tying boats up to) and don't have the needed tool to make the hole in the sand to put the posts into. The usual method is using a water pump with a pipe attached to the discharge hose. I have not been able to find one of these contraptions anywhere. Does anyone have one I could borrow or rent for a few hours? Does anyone know anyone who has one to borrow, rent or buy? With gratitude, Keith Keith Rogers mobile 310-909-9536 email keithc...@gmail.com |
