Mary S. Tolerton
Mary “Mimi” S. Tolerton, 85, of Chautauqua Shores, NY passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2025 following a brief illness.
She was born on September 2, 1940 in Canton, OH to Dale and Mary Swallen. Mimi moved to Sharon, PA as a young child and was a dedicated clarinet and piano student. She graduated from Sharon High School and Mount Union College in Alliance, OH with a degree in English and was a proud member of The Mount Union Purple Raider Marching Band. Mimi met the love of her life, Joel Tolerton, in college and they were married on June 16, 1962. They lived in Alliance and Chautauqua and loved spending time in Englewood, FL.
Mimi was an avid reader, talented knitter and pianist. She enjoyed participating in book and garden clubs, cooking, golfing, boating, AirStream camping and many genres of music.
She was a Big Fan of The Cleveland Browns, The Mount Union Football Team and The New York Yankees.
Mimi supported wildlife conservation and loved animals with a special fondness for Golden Retrievers.
In her later years, Mimi became very accomplished in the art of Zentangle.
She is survived by several nephews, a niece and cousins.
Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Margaret “Marnie” Tolerton and her husband, Joel Tolerton.
Her interment will be at the Chautauqua Cemetery and a memorial service will be held
