I created a package to install MSXML 4.0 SP3 several months ago and haven't had any issues with it. It was pretty trivial to create once I knew the file location and the version number I was looking for. First I check for the existence of msxml4.dll in Windows\system32 on x86 machines or Windows\syswow64 on 64 bit machines and if it exists but is less than 4.30.2100.0 the patch is installed.
The Stone Edge Order Manager requires MS XML 4.0 ( msxml4.0, msxml40.dll) to be installed prior to installing the Order Manager. For your convenience we have made it available to download from this knowledge base article.
MSXML3 is a current MSXML product, represented by msxml3.dll. MSXML 3.0 SP2 first shipped with Windows XP, Internet Explorer 6.0 and MDAC 2.7. Windows XP SP2 includes MSXML 3.0 SP5 as part of MDAC 2.81. Windows 2000 SP4 also ships with MSXML 3.0. By default, Internet Explorer version 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 use MSXML 3 to parse XML documents loaded in a window. MSXML 3.0 SP7 is the last supported version for Windows 95. Windows XP SP3 includes MSXML 3.0 SP9. Windows Vista also includes MSXML 3.0 (SP10).
I encountered the error message "MSXML ActiveX control failed to load" in 64bit IE9 accessing D2 4.5. msxml6_x64 is installed but does not appear in the program list. CTX ActiveX control failed to load also.
Otherwise check that:Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 SP2 or higher is installed.
Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 or higher is installed.These are required before you can install XML 4.0 SP2.Windows Installer 3.1 can be found on Rise of Legends Disc 1, its installed if necessary by the game.Here's the usual support pages; basically perform a clean boot (NO third party services running), install XML 4.0, uninstall then reinstall Rise of Legends. Zekeling posted 08-13-06 10:03 PM EDT (US) 2 / 7 thanks a bunch and i do have WINXP SP2I dont usually use IE coz im a firefox user. do i have to uninstall my msxml and reinstall it again after i get an updated IE? I probably do the upgrades and reinstallation after i get off from work Thorney
