Our Network
As of this morning, the Charter for Compassion Network had 267 Fans on
our Facebook Page, 56 members on our Ning social network, and 35
members on our Wiser Earth social network. In addition, in recent
months, Wade Hudson has been sending reports on our efforts to almost
500 Facebook Friends who are also Fans of the Charter for Compassion,
most of whom asked to receive such reports.
Now we’ve just begun to ask everyone to become a formal Member for
these reasons:
1) We want to clarify who endorses Our Core Convictions so we can
solidify connections with those who share our commitment.
2) We can send Facebook messages to only 20 people at a time.
3) It will be easier to communicate if everyone is on the same list.
4) Joining a Google Group doesn’t require any extra step, such as
creating a gmail account or a social network profile.
5) The easiest way for us to communicate with the largest number of
members and be assured that everyone receives our communication is to
rely primarily on the Google Group.
6) Your demonstration of support would be valuable.
So if you endorse Our Core Convictions and have not yet become a
Member, please go to http://groups.google.com/group/charter-for-compassion-network
and click on the email form link at the bottom to send us a message
informing us that you want to become a Member.
If you received this report from the Google Group earlier today,
you’re already a Member, and we apologize for the duplicate message
(soon we’ll stop sending duplicates).
By becoming a Member you can better share your ideas and reports on
your efforts, as well as be kept informed about others’ ideas and
efforts.
Together, we can learn more about compassion and figure out how to
help make the world more compassionate.

Videos
This Sunday, Robin Rainbow Gate and I will be recording several one-on-
one interviews with friends here in Tepoztlan, Mexico, where I spend
winters. We’ll be uploading them to our YouTube Channel and to our
Facebook Page soon thereafter.
Also, during the first week of April, I’ll be staying at the Quakers’
community center in Mexico City, Casa de los Amigos. I plan to use my
pocket-sized Panasonic camera to interview folks there. I still need
to boost my editing skills, however, so it may be a while before those
interviews are uploaded.
When I return to San Francisco, I plan to do more video interviews.
If any of you are interested in producing some interviews, please let
us know. Robin and I, with assistance from Edwin Rutsch from the
Emapthy Café project, have developed what looks like a good list of
questions. Following our interviews Sunday, we may tweak those
questions. If you want to consider using our questions in your
video(s), it could make for an informative series with overlapping
content.
Also, I plan to research doing webcam interviews with Skype or other
software.
Clearly, video is becoming an increasingly viable way to communicate
and learn from one another. You’re invited to contribute your work.

Circles of Compassion
Circles consist of Charter for Compassion supporters who commit to
self-development, community service, political activity, and mutual
support. They meet at least monthly to enjoy each other’s fellowship
(perhaps including sharing a meal or refreshments), conduct a semi-
formal support group, and engage in planning as needed. Charter
supporters invite friends, relatives, coworkers, and members of their
community who affirm the principles of the Charter to participate in
these Circles.
The Rochester Circle of Compassion has met twice and will meet again
soon. Reports on their meetings are posted at
http://charternetwork.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Rochester.Home.

Booklet
The latest draft of our 35,000-word book, working title, The
Compassion Movement: XX Ways to Transform Yourself and the World, is
at http://charternetwork.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Booklet.Home. Your
feedback would be most welcome. I plan to circulate hard copies to
various individuals during the next few weeks. So we may publish it by
the end of April.

Library
John Cloud presents the following offer:
I would like to begin a Resource Center and Library here on the East
Coast to house material for the Charter for Compassion. I am offering
the skill and time and energy to create a professionally done library,
suitable for study, professionally indexed, and more. I wish to
archive and collect the works of Compassion...not for me. I know
several prominent colleges and Universities with whom I could house
such a collection. First, feedback and support from all those whom you
wish to share such a plan.
Donations of materials such as books and recordings are graciously
accepted. I am quite sure that those who have such materials and seek
to see them used will gladly share them when they are done with them
or donate them for fear that they will be ignored by others. I will
make sure that they are cared for and preserved.
I can handle requests and questions and will donate my time to keep
track of and answer to whatever bibliography is acknowledged. I will
begin to work on creating this as a positive, useable, workable,
collection that can benefit as many interested people as possible
worldwide. I will accept all the expenses of moving material, travel
and all costs associated with my efforts to catalog and house the
material temporarily until a more permanent location can be found and
secured. I will accept all costs of any software I might need to
accomplish this undertaking. I will accept all costs of any material I
feel is needed to properly communicate the catalog’s undertaking
including registrations, licenses, memberships, signage, office
supplies, postage and more to be clarified. I will not pay for books
and material to be mailed to me or reimburse any expenses of anyone
else I am not aware of and will never hold the Charter or Circle for
Compassion responsible for any challenges or issues whatsoever. But,
it will always be to the benefit of these organizations and I will
always encourage support by the world community.
I ask for your blessing and understanding and encouragement for such a
project and I ask that you share this now growing reality with anyone
you feel would aid success. I am deeply honored to do this and to aid
such a project to come to fruition. All success will depend entirely
on the power of compassion and I ask for no special recognition or
acknowledgement other than avoiding conflict and disagreement. I will
consistently undertake this challenge for a 2-year period beginning
March 9th 2010 thus being reviewed on March 9th 2012 to the growth of
Compassion in the World.

Empathy Cafes
The March 2010 Empathy Café Newsletter is at
http://progressivespirit.com/Empathy/Projects/Newsletter/Newsletter-Vol1-Issue3.htm
Among many other items, it reports:
++
We are now planning the next Empathy Cafe meetings, the goal being to
contribute to Building a Culture of Empathy and Compassion by
producing a series of monthly Empathy Cafes, consisting of a
presentation by an 'empathy expert' speaker, followed by a World Cafe
style discussion forum. This is a way to develop support for empathy
in our community by creating a space for personal growth, education,
networking, community organizing and responsible social action. Our
last Empathy Healthcare Cafe generated a lot of positive energy. We
need to keep it growing.
++
Others might want to follow their example, using the World Café model.

Future Plans
After allowing some time for folks to join as a Member on our Google
Group, we may initiate a Google Group specifically for discussions and/
or initiate discussions on our Facebook Page.
Also, once our situation clarifies, we may establish a method and
criteria for Members to become active, voting members empowered to
help direct our Network.
If you have ideas concerning projects that you’d like to initiate,
please let us know. Maybe folks here can work with you on your
project.
But our most pressing priority at the moment is outreach. We need to
recruit more participation. If you can help with outreach, please let
us know.
