The Dolly Suite Op.56 was composed by the French composer Gabriel Fauré. It was named after the daughter of a friend whose nickname was "Dolly", and as you might imagine the music and movement titles are suitably child-friendly. The original version of this suite is for Piano Duet. This arrangement however is for piano solo, so it is for 2 hands rather than 4. On mfiles here is the original version Dolly: Berceuse - Piano Duet and here is another arrangement Dolly: Berceuse - for oboe or flute and piano (with alternative solo parts for clarinet or trumpet, french horn, violin, viola, alto sax, bassoon or cello).

Cortot arranged the work for solo piano in 1899, and in 1906 Henri Rabaud orchestrated the work for full symphony orchestra. This version received its first public performance conducted by Léon Jehin in Monte Carlo in December, 1906,[5] and was later used to accompany "an ingenious ballet" with a story by Louis Laloy at the Théâtre des Arts in Paris.[9]

Gabriel Fauré wrote his Dolly suite to mark the birthdays and other life events of his love interest, Emma Bardac. The suite was originally scored for piano, containing six short pieces written between 1893 and 1896. The Berceuse, the first piece in the suite, is one of the most popular, and has been arranged for a number of different instruments. In this version for double bass and piano, the solo part is available in both high and low versions, suitable for advanced or intermediate players. The arrangement makes use of the harmonics on the instrument, and is a great way for intermediate players to get used to melodic passages in the harmonic register.

Could anyone suggest something for DD1 to play for her GCSE music duet?
She is looking for a grade 5 or above piano duet OR piano accompaniment to a vocal piece. Her solo piece is a Grade 7 Jazz piece so she would like something with dynamics, legato, articulation etc as a contrast.
She has until January to learn it but is sitting her G7 in November.
